Gilson Schwartz

Gilson Schwartz – Leader, City of Knowledge Research Group and Associate Research Fellow, Technological Policies and Management Research Group, University of São Paulo. Graduated in Economics and Social Sciences, holds a PhD in Economic Theory on the philosophical foundations of John Maynard Keynes political economy of time and value (from the Institute of Economics at the State University of Campinas). Professor of Economics at the Business School of São Paulo (EAESP-FGV-SP) in 1983, at the Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP) from 1984 to 1986, at the Institute of Economics of the State University of Campinas from 1985 to 1995 and at the Research Center on International Relations of the University of São Paulo from 1995 to 2000. Appointed Visiting Professor at the Information and Communications Study Group of the Institute of Advanced Studies and Professor, since 2005, at the Department of Film, Radio and TV of the School of Communications and Arts at the University of São Paulo.
Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Science and Technology Department (Knowledge Management Chamber, 2003) and to the President of the National Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES, 2004-2005). Advisor to the National Information Technology Institute at the Civil Office of the Presidency of Brazi (2005-2006). Former Chief Economist (1004-1997) and advisor to the Economic Research Unit of BankBoston, Brazil (1998-2006). Author of books on international economics (focus on Asian experiences) and history of economic thought. Research fellow at the Institute of Developing Economies (Tokyo, 1987), Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies at the University of California, San Diego (1990-1995), World Policy Institute at the New School University of New York, Emerging Powers Program (1997). Has done consulting for the Inter-American Development Bank, the United Nations (UNDP, Cepal), SELA (Latin American Economic System), Ministry of Planning (Applied Economic Research Institute, IPEA), Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, American Chamber of Commerce in Brazil, National Small Business Support Service (SEBRAE), Ethos Institute, Ministry of Science and Technology, Prefecture of São Paulo, State Government of São Paulo. Member of the Brazil Transparency chapter.
