Jairo Espinosa

Jairo J. Espinosa Oviedo is Associate Professor at the National University of Colombia in Medellín. For 7 years he was R&D manager and consultant for the company IPCOS N.V. in Belgium and The Netherlands where he made research in advanced process control systems. He has been involved in the creation of software products to construct inferential sensors, nonlinear model based predictive controllers and process optimization. He has hands on experience in many industrial areas including oil, polymers, petrochemicals, automotive, power generation, food and beverages, and iron production where he has applied many of his developments.

He has an extensive experience on European projects as researcher and partner, including the projects: HDMPC (Hierarchical and Distributed Model Predictive Control of Large-Scale Systems (FP7-ICT, STREP Project), POLYPROMS - Development of advanced polymerization Process, Modeling, Simulation, Design and Optimization Tools – (FP5), IMPACT:  Improved Polymer Advanced Control Technology   (EUREKA), SOFT4S -Soft Sensors for the Chemical Process Industry – Project paid by the Belgian Government IWT) and BATCH (Batch Advanced Technology in CHemical industry- Project paid by the Belgian Government IWT).

Dr. Espinosa has been working as a reviewer for the EC and has published many articles, journal papers, book chapters and a book Fuzzy Logic, Identification and Predictive Control (Advances in Industrial Control) Ed. Springer, London 2004. he is a graduated with honors as Master (Cum laude) and a Ph.D. (Magna Cum Laude) in Electrical Engineering from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. 

Actually also is the local coordinator of PRO IDEAL PLUS in Colombia.
